Indian Head Massage

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

An holistic treatment incorporating the head, neck, shoulders, back, upper arms and face, collectively de-stressing the whole of the body and often including the use of oil to nourish both hair and scalp.

Indian Head Massage is based on an ancient Ayurvedic healing system.  Ayurveda comes from Sanskirt and means “the science of life and longevity”.  Indian tradition believes that massage preserves the body’s life force and energy, by relaxing and rejuvenating the body.  The skill is handed down from generation to generation and is very much a family tradition in India with brides & grooms receiving ceremonial massages before their wedding, expectant mothers receiving massages both ante-natal and post-natal and even babies being massaged on a daily basis.

Barbers shops in India can include a stimulating head massage known as Champi as part of their service.

What the treatment involves

Following a medical & lifestyle consultation, clients will be asked to sit on a comfortable chair.  The massage is generally carried out over light clothes (a T-Shirt is ideal), however should you request the use of oil over the upper back and arms, then your top will be removed and an appropriate modesty towel applied as necessary.

The treatment will begin with an upper back massage helping to relax those muscles that traditionally hold our stresses and tension.  This is followed by massage of the upper arms, neck, and scalp – where the use of oil is applied if requested and finally a relaxing face massage.
