Swedish Body Massage

Massage has been practiced throughout the centuries with the belief of achieving many different theraputic benefits, from bringing relief to ailments, reducing fatigue and promoting vigour.  Scientific research over time has shown that soft tissue manipulation or massage can have a beneficial effect on the circulatory system – resulting in the speedier removal of deoxygenated blood, waste products and toxins from the body, and an increased circulation of oxygenated blood to the organs and tissues.

A combination of light strokes (effleurage), medium strokes (pettrisage) and deep strokes (friction) is used to warm up the muscles and knead away any knots or tension.  Fore-arm and elbow work may be incorporated to target deep-seated adhesions or tension.  Finally percussion moves such as hacking, cupping or pummeling can be used to stimulate the body improving circulation and skin tone.

What the treatment involves

Following a medical & lifestyle consultation, clients will be asked to remove all their outer clothes, leaving their underwear on and lie face up on the massage couch under the towels.

The body is then systematically massaged working round the legs, arms, chest and back of neck and the stomach for female.  The client remains covered by towels at all times with only the limb that is being massaged, being exposed.

The client will then be asked to turn over and the back of the legs followed by a deep back massage will be administered to relieve tension and promote deep relaxation.

Following a brief period of relaxation the client will gradually regain awareness and be asked to drink plenty of water to help the elimination of toxins from the body.

Each treatment will last for approximately 60 minutes.
